Duane Shimmel is a musician, sound artist and experimental music composer with a focused interest in electronic music. Moving beyond the limitations of stereo sound, his practice in surround sound compositions places the listener at the center of his imagined spaces. In these spaces Duane explores sonic texture, sensation of place, subtle motion and emotion while inviting his listeners to share these auditory journeys. Drawing on his background as a professional trumpet player and audio engineer/producer, his work strives to pay homage to artists, Jon Hassell, Brian Eno, Terry Riley and Harold Bud.
Duane is finishing his thesis year this spring in the IMFA program at the University of Maine. Born in Central Pennsylvania in 1963, Duane holds a BA from the University of Maine in New Media.
